Moving Geosystem Server Installations to a New Server

Geosystem programs do not have a server component, so an installation on one server may be easily moved to another server:

  • Xcopy the existing installation to the new server.
  • Move user data to the new server.
  • Move user settings to the new server.
  • Adjust program shortcuts on each user machine.
  • Adjust data and program settings paths to point to the new server.

Xcopy the existing installation to the new server

Geosystem products do not have a server component, so a Geosystem program's installation can be moved from one server to another by simply copying the old server installation folder (and subfolders) over to the new server.

Move user data to the new server

Geosystem soil test and boring log data are stored by project in folders with a .GEO extension. (If you don't know where users are storing their files, start the GEOSYSTEM Soils Test Software, GEOSYSTEM Boring Log Software or GEOSYSTEM Boring Log and Soils Test Software program on a user's machine, then look for the serfer folder listed next to the projects shown in the "recent projects" list on the opening screen.) Once you've found the .GEO folder locations on the old server, copy the folders to an empty folder on the new server.

QC-Concrete stores its data in a single file called CQC-CP.MDB. To find this file, start the QC-Concrete application on a user's machine, select "Tools" > "Administrator Tools", then note the path listed under "Database". You'll find the CQC-CP.MDB file at that path: copy the file to a folder on the new server.

Move user settings to the new server

The Geosystem soil test and boring log programs can be configured to share configuration settings and report form designs amongst users via a network share folder. To move these settings, start the GEOSYSTEM Soils Test Software, GEOSYSTEM Boring Log Software or GEOSYSTEM Boring Log and Soils Test Software program on a user's machine, select "Options" > "Setup General Options", then click on "Files" in the dialog's left-hand navigation panel. If the path listed in the "Report, data entry form and shareable config. file path" box is on the old server, copy the contents of that folder to an empty folder on the new server.

Adjust program shortcuts on each user machine

You will need to adjust the Geosystem program shortcuts on each user's computer to point to the software's new home on the new server. Look for the following shortcuts: GEOSYSTEM Soils Test Software, GEOSYSTEM Boring Log Software, GEOSYSTEM Boring Log and Soils Test Software, QC-Concrete.

Adjust data and program settings paths to point to the new server

To adjust the program settings path for the Geosystem soil test and boring log software, start the program on a user's computer, select "Options" > "Setup General Options", click on "Files" in the dialog's left-hand navigation panel, then change the "Report, data entry form and shareable config. file path" path to point to the settings folder on the new server. Before closing the dialog, make sure that the "Apply this path selection to all program users" box is checked.

The Geosystem soil test and boring log programs don't have a specific setting for the path to the user's data files; instead, they remember the path to where the last-opened project was stored, then suggest that as a default for the next project create/open. If you want to get the default pointing to the right place, select "Project" > "Open", navigate to the folder on your server where you've moved the .GEO project folders, then double-click on one of the listed projects to open it. Now close the program.

To adjust the QC-Concrete data path, start QC-Concrete on a user's machine, select "Tools" > "Administrator Tools", then change the path in the "Database" box to the folder on the new server where you moved the CQC-CP.MDB file. You'll need to take this step on each machine used to run the program.
